JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Hand Embroiderer, Zari is expected to perform include:

Sewing ornamental designs by hand over stamped or stencilled patterns on fabric
Stitching 'baithan' (cloth which forms base) to string loops of 'karchob' or 'adda' (embroidery frame)
Cutting zari material into pieces of required size with scissors
Threading needle with yarn and stitching the 'zari' pieces and beads, etc. neatly
Removing embroidered fabric from frame

WORK ENVIRONMENT ^{1, 2}

It is a bench job
Need not handle a team
Local travelling is not a part of this job role
Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
Work from home option is not available

Working hours

Working hours are for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization

Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible

Understanding of different kind of fabrics like cotton, silk, velvet, etc.
Knowledge of special zardozi material like kora, kangani, sadi, nakshi, beads, etc.
In-depth knowledge of various zardozi material and their designs
Knowledge of needle work and thread work
Knowledge of different types of embroidery stitches
Knowledge of how to use and care for equipment
